June is a Special Month

Posted by Joe on Jun 18, 2008 in Uncategorized

June is a special month to millions of people all over the world because June is National Gay Pride Month.

It isn’t just national though, it is international. Millions of people, gay, lesbian, bisexual, trangender, and heterosexual people all over the world celebrate the diversity of sexual orientation and sexual preference.

The environment that is created at these festivals is unique. At these festivals, everywhere, people feel as though they can be free; different than most feel in everyday life. Most gay men and women live each and every day of their lives feeling as though they cannot express who they really are and be their true self.

Now that I have expressed my own opinion into a tangent. I emplore you all to educate yourselves about Gay Pride Month by reading information and links from this Wikipedia page: LGBT History. Also, the photo here is one I found and thought it was very powerful, almost giving me stong feelings.

Help the Red Cross with a Donation

Posted by Joe on Jun 17, 2008 in Uncategorized

According to the Associated Press, “the American Red Cross says its Disaster Relief Fund is out of money. The organization says it will have to borrow so it can keep helping flood victims in the Midwest.”

Reading this Monday night made me kind of sad. I know that most people aren’t donating to organizations as they did in the past; most of which is due to the high cost of gas and food throughout the nation. It doesn’t take much if everyone were to help.

I am writing this to plead with everyone to help the American Red Cross. Every little bit can help, even if you can only give $1, that could help someone in need. You can give you donation online by clicking here for the official American Red Cross donation site or by visiting your local Red Cross chapter.

I donated $25 on Monday night via the online form, so I ask that everyone do the same. Give what you can. Also, if you want to know more about how you can help, contact your local Red Cross chapter.

Same-sex Marriage Begins In California

Posted by Joe on Jun 17, 2008 in Uncategorized

It was very exciting to see that another state is now allowing same-sex marriage. I think it is amusing, in an ironic kind of way, that people in a free civilization need the permission of their government to become legal life partners.

My opinion may differ from that of others in this country, or around the world, but I believe that two people should be allowed to get married, no matter what. I don’t believe that two people should need the permission of the government, or anyone else, to be legally married. I always believe that some day I will meet someone that I want to marry and we will, just for us, not because we can or cannot get a marriage license.

This is just random thoughts of mine. I hope that you can understand it. Even if you don’t agree with same-sex marriage, or with someone be gay or lesbian, do you still think that it is up to you to decide what is right or wrong in life? If you believe in a God, isn’t it up to God to decide who is a sinner and who is not? Just some additional thoughts of mine.

Here is a video from WIVB-TV about the start of same-sex marriage in California tonight:

Floods in Iowa

Posted by Joe on Jun 13, 2008 in Uncategorized

The flood devastation in Iowa is amazing to see. One never thinks that flooding can be as bad as it can actually get. The photos below are just amazing to me; to see a major city that is now a lake. It is almost like a movie.

The Greater Buffalo Chapter of the American Red Cross is sending people there to help those in need. I urge everyone to donate to their effort by following this link: http://www.buffaloredcross.org/Home/Donate?Catalog=72&ProductClass=145

I think everyone, no matter where you live, should be prepared that something like this could happen to you. Your local Red Cross chapter should have information on how to be prepared.
